Final few days in Canada

Tonight is our last night with Brett & Kerri in Canada. Our flight is tomorrow at midnight (local tim) and arrive midday at Heathrow (local time).

We've had a real busy weekend. On Friday I had to cancel my credit card which is a real pain. It appears some fraudulent transactions have been made which is dodgy as I've only used it once since I arrived in Canada, at the restaurant we went to for Brett's birthday. I won't be able to tell where the transactions were made until tomorrow but in the meantime I had no other option than to phone my bank back home and cancel the card.

On Saturday it was Canada Day and we headed to Ottawa, the nation's capital, for the celebrations. It's about an hour's drive away but we got there early to watch England's Quarter Final against Portugal at an English pub called The Earl of Sussex. Say no more really - penalties just aren't our thing. As you can see by the photos we got away with our England shirts as everyone else was wearing red too!

The city was absolutely crawling with people. A lot of streets in the CBD were closed off, bars and restaurants were overflowing and the shops were crammed. Everybody really gets into it over here. It was a merchandisers paradise! Canadian flags, t-shirts, tattoos, stickers & ofcourse silly hats were splayed everywhere. We even had time to sit down and enjoy an hour of a french folk/country which including Sheryl's favourite instrument - the bongos! Yes!

On Sunday Kerri had friends & family over for a BBQ which was cool. Weather wise it was probably the best day we've had here so far - perfect timing! And what social gathering wouldn't be complete without a hundred dollar amateur fireworks display. Speaking of things that go 'Boom' we had a freaky electric storm on Saturday night. It must've come within a few hundred metres of us - it sounded like it had hit a tree in the yard. It certainly scared the crap out of the dogs.

No-one's happy about the soccer by now. And then the credit-card. Talk about kicking someone while they're down. That sucks. Make sure you don't have to pay for it.

On the bright side the weather in the UK is probably still quite nice. Hope you have a good flight.
